Downloading the SSL Certificate (as a Trusted Root Certification Authority)
This guide will help you to get online with your own personal device. Please note this is not necessary on any school owned or managed device - as this will be deployed automatically from your server, or cloud service.
Step 1 - Downloading the Certificate to your iOS device
To make this simple you can either scan the QR code below, or visit https://repo.blackowl.co.uk/edu/sbb
The device will then show a message: 'Configuration profile available - This website is trying to download a configuration profile.'
Tap on 'Continue'. The screen will then change to show another message: 'This website is trying to download a configuration profile. Do you want to allow this?'
Tap 'Allow'.
If you have multiple iOS devices, such as an iPhone and Apple Watch, you will get an extra pop-up asking you to 'Choose a Device'. If this comes up, select 'iPhone'.
The screen will then change again and will show another message: 'Profile Downloaded - Review the profile in Settings app if you want to install it.'
Tap 'Close'.
Step 2 - Installing the Profile
Open the settings app using the icon shown below.
At the top of the screen - underneath your name - you will see a new 'block' labelled 'Profile Downloaded'. Tap on this.
The Profile will then be shown, with an option to 'Install' at the top right of the screen. Tap on this.
If your iOS device has a passcode set, the device will prompt you to enter it. Enter the passcode.
A certificate warning will be displayed. Tap 'Install'.
A second prompt will appear at the bottom of the screen displayed, tap 'Install' again.
The on-screen wizard will confirm that the Profile has been installed onto your device and will show 'Verified ✔️' on screen. Tap 'Done'.
Step 3 - Trusting the certificate
Before the certificate can be used as intended, it must be trusted by the device. On the device, go to Settings -> General -> About -> Certificate Trust Settings (at the bottom of the page).
The installed Root Certificates will be displayed in a section titled "Enable Full Trust for Root Certificates."
There is a slide button next to each certificate. Tap the slide button next to the certificate you just installed.
A confirmation dialogue will be displayed - tap Continue.
Step 3 - All done!
You're all done and now ready to access the internet. This won't affect your internet usage anywhere else, like at home.
